HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR 2017!
We just had the western world turn-of-the-calendar page New Year, but we get a chance to revisit our resolutions with an energetic New Year, the Lunar New Year 2017, which starts January 28th. How does the Chinese calendar work? Technically, the lunar new year is the second new moon after the winter solstice. This celebration goes back to a time when human activity revolved around farming. For an agrarian culture, being able to predict cycles was paramount to survival. The Lunar New Year represents the first manifestation of new beginnings stirring deep in the earth when the days are noticeably beginning to lengthen.
The Lunar New Year is an energetic overlay. We’re ending the Year of the Monkey and moving into the Year of the Rooster.
So, we’re moving out of the Monkey Year 2016 where the energy is quick-witted, mischievous, fast moving, and adaptable – does any of that ring a bell for you – and into the Rooster 2017. The Lunar New Year 2017 represented by the Rooster is a much more solid, stable energy and Roosters are thought to be reliable, kind, detail-oriented, knowledgeable, generous, hard working, orderly, honest and courageous. To see the Lunar New Year off to a good start, try one or two of the rituals if you have time: clean the house, pay due bills, buy new clothes (twist my arm!), or wash your hair before the actual New Year. The basic idea is new beginnings, starting fresh and taking a breath to enjoy life.
