Electrical stimulation, or e-stim for short, is most commonly used in the treatment of soft tissue for both traumatic and chronic conditions. This method is an adjunct to needling and is done by attaching leads to the acupuncture needles, in order to amplify their effect.
The sensation is of a tiny pulsation at the needling site, and the acupuncturist works closely with you to establish your comfort level for each lead.
