We’ve all experienced getting bumps, scrapes, bruises, and worse: Oriental medicine (OM) has herbs that can be taken internally to nourish and strengthen soft tissue, and it has its own class of external applications commonly referred to as “hit” medicine, because they are widely used in martial arts. Some of the forms commonly used for external application are linament oils, tinctures, plasters, and raw-herb soaks. External applications often contain herbs that are toxic if taken internally, so caution should be taken when applying them.
