Herbal formulas are an essential part of our practice, and in some cases, herbs are more important than acupuncture.
Chinese herbal formulas are constructed in a specific combination to get the most out of each one. Think of a symphony: each instrument is distinctive but the sound of them playing together is much greater.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine the word “herbs” can be plant, animal, or mineral. Animal or mineral are for very special problems, and the majority we us in practice are plants. If you think about it, since the human body is designed to consume plants as a complex carbohydrate, so too are the properties of the herbs readily accepted in the digestive process. As an added benefit, when we combine herbs into a formula, the patient’s GI history is always taken into account.
