Chinese herbal medicine has become especially relevant, globally, during this pandemic. Chinese herbs are strong, and a well-written formula can give a boost to the body’s immune abilities to fight infection and speed recovery from some of the common after effects of the virus such as headaches, brain fog, and fatigue.
Disclaimer: we want to be clear that Chinese herbal medicine does not provide immunity from the virus nor is it a cure, but the herbs have properties that help to build the body’s natural defenses and speed the exit of noxious agents, should you have the misfortune of infection and side effects from it.
Since the onset of the virus has been recent, research literature on treating symptoms using Chinese herbal medicine is scant, but I found this article on Pubmed. It’s a systematic review and meta-analysis that covers the use of Chinese herbal medicine in detail, with the conclusion stating “CHM maybe be beneficial for the treatment of COVID-19 in improving clinical symptoms, imaging, and laboratory indicators, shortening the course of disease, and reducing the number of severe cases.”
Our formulas are written in specific combinations to get the most out of each herb. A well designed herbal formulas, written by an experienced practitioner, can be a shortcut to recovery.
Chinese herbal medicine is an essential part of our practice and by education and experience have seen that sometimes herbs can be more important as a treatment method than straight-up acupuncture for specific conditions.
